Dad's 1st

Dad’s 1st is an extension of the Parenting Matters program component. FCH recognizes that many fathers are not part of the same household as their children due to incarceration and or other problems associated with Mother/ Father break ups. We believe Dads are still important and are needed for the development of their children in many ways, in spite of the issues among the parents.

About Project Dad's 1st:

Dad’s 1st is an extension of the Parenting Matters program component of the Family Center of Hope (FCH). The FCH recognizes that many fathers are not part of the same household as their

children due to incarceration and or other problems associated with Mother/ Father break ups. We believe Dads are still important and are needed for the development of their children in many ways, in spite of the issues among the parents.

Dad’s 1st began as a result of a great number of teenage fathers receiving services from Project ReStore. The FCH offers 12 Power Packed sessions to Dads utilizing the 4 Phases of Self: Knowing Self, Accepting Self, Developing Self and Giving Self. Through these phases Dads become aware of their strengths, weaknesses, and the reality of father- hood. Inherent in this process Dads become more confident in themselves and their responsibility for their children.

 Dad’s 1st sessions include:

•  I Can be a Great Dad

•  Taking Care of Self

•  Challenging Negative Dad Thoughts

•  How to Get out of the Trap of Poor Parenting

•  What Kind of Dad am I

•  How to Love my Child(ren)

•  What to do When you Don’t Know What to Do

•  Parent –Child Interaction

•  My Presence Counts

•  Work Matters

•  I Can Do This
